Shawn Wilson (In Memoriam) #LOVEONPURPOSE


Shawn Wilson was nicknamed “Big Shawn”. He was a Philadelphia Pennsylvania native and graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School. He received and graduated from several educational curricula such as Army Basic Training, Army Intelligence Officer Training (Academy in Fort Huachuca) and Philadelphia Police Academy Training.


Shawn retired as a Sergeant from the Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) after having completed 20+ years of active duty serving the community. During that time, he was in several life-threatening gun battles which left a mark on him. While serving in the PPD, Shawn had the opportunity to serve more than 26,000 young Philadelphians as part of the Police Athletics League (PAL). He traveled throughout the city and was responsible for nearly thirty Police Athletic League Centers and staffing, while fulfilling PAL’s mission of reducing crime, promoting character development and improving educational outcomes.

Prior to his career at PPD, he served this country for three years in the United States Army and received an Honorable Hardship Discharge. He also served as personal body guard for several iconic superstar basketball players such as Allen Iverson and Baron Davis. Shawn was a member in good standing with the: Fraternal Order of Police, Guardian Civic League, National Association of Black Law Enforcement Officers (NOBLE), ASIS International, International Organization of Black Security Executives (IOBSE), and the National Association of Security Professionals (NASP). Shawn was recognized as an “Outstanding Police Officer of the Year”, he received three Bravery Commendations, six Merit Commendations, six Unit Citations, and numerous Community-based awards.


Shawn believed that service and servanthood equals success and he was deeply committed to helping United States Veterans receive the benefits to which they are entitled. As CEO of a non-profit foundation called “Vets in the Hood” otherwise known as “United States Veterans Restoration Group (USVRG)”, he helped over 100+ Veterans get 100% of their earned benefits and inspired the Veterans Action Council to set forth a goal, vision and mission to help millions more. He had a passion for helping Veterans and was always looking to partner with those with the same interests.
